2012.05.24 Roadtrip to Trangie, NSW

Gotta love it when family are interstate and those special occasions come around.... gets you away from your daily grind.  Even if it is an 11 1/2hr Road trip, with 2 teenage boys...

It was back to Trangie, NSW for our nephews 21st birthday celebrations (can't miss that), so here are a few images I took on the road (you get a bit stir crazy in the passenger seat, you know..) so I often will 'snap' at anything that moves... or doesn't!!

Firstly there's the truck traffic - this was the afternoon's stretch between Goondiwindi & Moree...

We have been doing this trip almost annually since the kids were babies, but they are really starting to fill up that back seat now...

And of course, can't forget the driver!!

Then we see Cotton Fields... YES, Cotton does grow from a seed :)
(& don't forget this is taken from a car travelling at 100kmph)

and tumbleweeds...

Circular Cotton Bales - apparently there are 5 bales per strip as this is what fits on the trucks (although some will squeeze on six).

And then there's the story of my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander - Oh how I love 'Ruby' ('cos she's Red).
Normally we will fill up at the half way point - Goondiwindi, but this day we decided we still had around 140klms of fuel left in the tank (according to Ruby), and we were sure there was another fuel station half way between (Yep, was wrong about that too, Boggabilla being last fuel stop), and it was only 124klms to Moree, so we kept driving... and driving... and driving... looking at the fuel guage getting lower, watching the guide posts with how many more klms to next town, and I must say just a tad little worried if we'd actually make it into town or not!
The fuel guage gets down to about 40klms left in the tank then disappears just showing a bar at the bottom, then the little Petrol Guage sign starts to flash, then when it's really low, we discovered it flashes REALLY FAST...

As we were rolling into Moree, they have changed the roads around (redirected the traffic), but we were sure if we took the old route there was a petrol station just on the right hand side.  Yep, it was still there but as we rolled in it had signs on the bowsers "No Fuel here"... BUGGER... so on we plod, still gently rolling and we can see the next saviour on the left...  I swear to you, if it had not been or the strong tailwind pushing us along, I am sure we would have been pushing.  So of course we thanked 'Ruby' and her efforts of not leaving us stranded and I just had to capture the 'empty' fuel guage and that we had travelled 565.7 klms on a 50-60Litre tank of fuel. (averaged between 9-10 litres per 100klms) I know.. probably not the best fuel consumption, but did us proud anyway!

We made it to Trangie unscathed.....

2012.03.31 Sunset from Aroona

And if this mornings sunrise wasn't enough.... the sunset was just as inspiring...

Photography can be frustrating sometimes especially when you want to capture what you can see with the naked eye... On this particular afternoon the sunlight was still very bright, but at times from behind the clouds it would cast a few rays, or a haze over the hillside.. this is what I could see... and this was what I wanted to capture!

I also love finding props to use, such as trees or buildings etc to silhouette against the sunlight...

The hills in the distance were lit up in different shades..

These 2 images had the haze that I wanted to capture, but I had to darken the capture (let less light in) so it would pick it up - it still wasn't to the fullest extent of what I could see myself, but I was happy with my moments frozen in time!

Last light .... captured from Aroona, Sunshine Coast QLD.

2012.02.27 Sunsets gone by...

Thought I'd share a few of my sunsets gone by.  Although a bit harder to find a good posi to capture these inspiring gems, the hunt has always been well worth it!

It also seems that the back end of the year has the sunset best positioned for me to capture these moments after I leave the office! (And is THE BEST way to end a day)!!

"Put a little sunshine in your life!"

Enjoy...

2012.02.12 Wurtulla Rocks

Sunday's Surf snaps...

My son was itching to go out for a surf at Wurtulla this morning - not too early, not too late (8ish I think - missed the sunrise), so I grabbed my camera and the dog...

Car park - what car park, the streets were like Pitt Street so thought it must be pretty good!  Finally found a park, headed up over the dunes and it was a sight to behold...

Plenty of peeps lookin' for waves

Nice little line up at Wurtulla Rocks

Was cloudy, but bright at Wurtulla Rocks
