2012.04.14 Skiing at Somerset Dam

Even though it had been raining leading up to the weekend, with rain still forecast we decided to bite the bullet so to speak and head out to Somerset Dam for our last ski weekend (for the footy season).

On Saturday it was foggy heading out, but once we got there, set up camp, and headed to the 'Spit' to put the boat in -it was looking promising!  Alex was up for a single Ski while the water was smooth - and we got hit with a 2-3minute shower.  Once that was gone even though it stayed overcast with rain clouds hanging low that was the last of it for the day.

The evening was absolutely brilliant, a million stars... a campfire... by the river.... what more could a happy camper ask for???

Well early hours of the morning it did rain, and when the alarm went off at 5.30 it was still raining - so we slept a little more.  This was a test for our new Oztrail tent Instant up which was on its maiden voyage. As I looked up there were water drops sitting on the inner tent - needless to say there were a few choice words with the disappointment that followed. Finding that this particular fly was not as waterproof as the advertising tells you was a great way to start the day.  But we didn't let a little rain dampen our spirits!

Pancakes for brekky, then onto the water - a bit rougher Sunday morning, Jeff lost his good sunglasses in the drink, the boys tried some kneeboarding, but it proved a bit rough so out came the tubes for a bit of fun. One of our neighbours came out for a day visit, so whilst they kept Jeff company in the boat, I went & started packing up.

I left the mess tent up for lunch and our tent to dry out, and even though it was a little damp underfoot.... all in all it made for another memorable camp/ski trip!

Hope you enjoyed the story!

2012.03.21 Sunrise over Currimundi Beach

Still waiting for that break in the sky, at 5:15am I could see a little streak of light in the sky from home so thought I'd try my luck... Milo (the dog) was extremely happy with my decision!

The sky had a few rips in its grey blanket which let a moment of light into the morning for me to complete my sunrise ritual, then I decided to just have a bit of a play with whatever else caught my eye...

Once the sun passed through its first magic moment there wasn't a lot of colour in the skies, so I processed these few  in some different shades of black and white...

My favourite Pandanus tree on Currimundi Beach..... still hanging on by its toes!

Last shot in magic hour.. I loved this one as the rays were like a guiding beacon for the ship!

Hope you enjoyed this moment of sunshine...

2012.03.02 Wurtulla Sunset

Finally I glimpsed the sunshine through the lens again... no two doubts about it, I have been sleeping in - well deserved I thought, but missing any glorious sunrises that have been peeping through the clouds.  Holidays on the Goldie in a week will be good timing to catch some glorious Autumn sunrises... but for tonight, I spied the sunset and I had to stop and play.  There were some nice orange tones, with a clean background, but I wanted to play with the silhouettes - shapes of trees and grass darkened in the brightness of the Sun's presence.

These were taken looking southwest over the Baroona Canal at Wurtulla, hope you enjoy...

AS THE SUN SETS...

Magic tip: the orange tones were only a band across the horizon as seen above,
but by zooming in on the coloured parts you capture just that area which gives
the illusion of the whole sky being like that!

The sun now below the horizon, that time just before the
'magic hour' looking up to the sky through the trees...

Welcome to Autumn...

2012.02.27 Sunsets gone by...

Thought I'd share a few of my sunsets gone by.  Although a bit harder to find a good posi to capture these inspiring gems, the hunt has always been well worth it!

It also seems that the back end of the year has the sunset best positioned for me to capture these moments after I leave the office! (And is THE BEST way to end a day)!!

"Put a little sunshine in your life!"

Enjoy...
