2012.05.28 Roadtrip - Sunset between Moree & Goondiwindi NSW

I love being able to witness the sunrise or sunset when on a road trip... you get to witness so many different aspects as the light comes or goes, and even though these pics have to be taken through the car window travelling 100kmph (no, my husband stops for no-one)...  here are a few of what I captured on the stretch between Moree & Goondiwindi...

I love zooming in on sunset colours, as it then sets a different scene...

trees on the horizon line...

on the other side of the car a different scene was being painted... clouds, rainbows
and the look of a shower or two.

clouds lit up by the setting sun...

back to the silhouettes..

a windmill on the horizon...

zooming in on the windmill...

the light has almost faded... as night envelops the sky

Time now to rest our weary heads, tomorrow another day!

2012.04.23 Currimundi Lake Sunrise

It has been awhile since I have headed specifially to the Lake to catch the Sunrise.  Now that the sun comes up a little later (after 6am) it gets a bit late for me to process before I head off to work, so through Autumn and Winter my Sunrise captures usually become the weekend task!

This particular morning I had been procrastinating about excercise... do I go for a ride on my new bike (which my hubby says was a waste of money - cos I never use it), do I go for a walk along the lake with the dog (the dog looking up at me with those pleading big brown puppy dog eyes), or do I jump in the car & head to the beach (which would also keep the dog happy - but I would be unlikely to walk the beach as I get caught up in taking photos)??? Hmmm hard decision.... not really, I just have to stop procrastinating!

So I grabbed the dog, Alex's little Fujifilm camera (just in case I saw something I wanted to capture-and its much lighter to carry..), and headed out the door down along the lake.  As I was heading on the home stretch the sky light captured my attention so I headed across to the bridge, bringing back memories from many years ago as this was where the sunrise captures first started.

It was also coming up to Anzac Day, and Mother Nature did not disappoint, with the cloud band providing some interesting visual effects!!!

Enjoy...

I couldn't get over how straight and square this reflection on the lake was and with the thin eye slit through the clouds it created the bright shape of a cross... just amazing!

I wanted to stay longer to see what sort of light show would come out from behind the cloud band... but it was getting past my point of no return (to get ready for work in time)!

2012.03.31 Sunset from Aroona

And if this mornings sunrise wasn't enough.... the sunset was just as inspiring...

Photography can be frustrating sometimes especially when you want to capture what you can see with the naked eye... On this particular afternoon the sunlight was still very bright, but at times from behind the clouds it would cast a few rays, or a haze over the hillside.. this is what I could see... and this was what I wanted to capture!

I also love finding props to use, such as trees or buildings etc to silhouette against the sunlight...

The hills in the distance were lit up in different shades..

These 2 images had the haze that I wanted to capture, but I had to darken the capture (let less light in) so it would pick it up - it still wasn't to the fullest extent of what I could see myself, but I was happy with my moments frozen in time!

Last light .... captured from Aroona, Sunshine Coast QLD.

2012.03.02 Wurtulla Sunset

Finally I glimpsed the sunshine through the lens again... no two doubts about it, I have been sleeping in - well deserved I thought, but missing any glorious sunrises that have been peeping through the clouds.  Holidays on the Goldie in a week will be good timing to catch some glorious Autumn sunrises... but for tonight, I spied the sunset and I had to stop and play.  There were some nice orange tones, with a clean background, but I wanted to play with the silhouettes - shapes of trees and grass darkened in the brightness of the Sun's presence.

These were taken looking southwest over the Baroona Canal at Wurtulla, hope you enjoy...

AS THE SUN SETS...

Magic tip: the orange tones were only a band across the horizon as seen above,
but by zooming in on the coloured parts you capture just that area which gives
the illusion of the whole sky being like that!

The sun now below the horizon, that time just before the
'magic hour' looking up to the sky through the trees...

Welcome to Autumn...
