2012.04.14 Skiing at Somerset Dam

Even though it had been raining leading up to the weekend, with rain still forecast we decided to bite the bullet so to speak and head out to Somerset Dam for our last ski weekend (for the footy season).

On Saturday it was foggy heading out, but once we got there, set up camp, and headed to the 'Spit' to put the boat in -it was looking promising!  Alex was up for a single Ski while the water was smooth - and we got hit with a 2-3minute shower.  Once that was gone even though it stayed overcast with rain clouds hanging low that was the last of it for the day.

The evening was absolutely brilliant, a million stars... a campfire... by the river.... what more could a happy camper ask for???

Well early hours of the morning it did rain, and when the alarm went off at 5.30 it was still raining - so we slept a little more.  This was a test for our new Oztrail tent Instant up which was on its maiden voyage. As I looked up there were water drops sitting on the inner tent - needless to say there were a few choice words with the disappointment that followed. Finding that this particular fly was not as waterproof as the advertising tells you was a great way to start the day.  But we didn't let a little rain dampen our spirits!

Pancakes for brekky, then onto the water - a bit rougher Sunday morning, Jeff lost his good sunglasses in the drink, the boys tried some kneeboarding, but it proved a bit rough so out came the tubes for a bit of fun. One of our neighbours came out for a day visit, so whilst they kept Jeff company in the boat, I went & started packing up.

I left the mess tent up for lunch and our tent to dry out, and even though it was a little damp underfoot.... all in all it made for another memorable camp/ski trip!

Hope you enjoyed the story!

Namaste..
