Now that we have a few weekends 'at home', (ie: not spending every w'end running the kids around to sporting carnivals etc) it is time to attack our front yard.
This was our Front yard back in 2007... anyone who knows me realises that I have a rather eccentric style when it comes to style or decorating, each corner may have its own theme and most likely won't 'fit in' with the next, but it works for me, and Jeff... well he just puts up with it :)
The triangular patch was a previous garden bed, originally with huge gum tree that had to come out as it starting dropping its very large branches... not real popular when you have littlies running around. The pool fence was a means to an end to a)keep the kids and the dog in, but worked well to keep other kids and dogs out too! The winding path is good feng shui.
I have always wanted to rip the space out and pave or do something... it has gone through many transformations. The happy plant against the wall is unkillable. It gets full sun, grows right up & under the eaves and gets hacked back every year. The old kegs give Jeff a sense of being in the garden too! ;)
These Jade plants are pretty old, trimmed and moved on the odd occasion, but still thriving!
Then the front yard (on the eastern side) started to flood on 11.01.2011 for the first time since we'd been there (1999), so I had to dig a few trenches so the water didn't come up onto the front verandah...
Alex had some shots that he took in the rain with his waterproof camera when the water was up, I was also digging trenches in the rain (that was a pretty funny sight), so by the time I got my camera out, it had mostly drained away...
Thankfully there is a gentle fall towards the road, gravity always helps!!
Haven't got round to it yet, but I will fill the trenches with stones/loose gravel or something to keep my little river bed in case it happens again!
STAY TUNED .... MORE UPDATES TO COME!
