Fastest Man on Sand - Round 4

“FASTEST MAN ON SAND” BEACH COMPETITION SERIES – SEASON 2009.2010

The inaugural “Fastest Man on Sand” beach event series concluded with Round 4 held at Mooloolaba on Sat 20th Feb.

Open to Surf Life Savers from around the world the Fastest Man on Sand attracts "THE BEST OF THE BEST ON THE BEACH" to contest their skills across eight age groups. The re-introduction of the Fastest Man on Sand as a four round series had been done through Surf Life Saving QLD to encourage members (and potential new members) to embrace the beach event/s side of Surf Sports competition.

There were approximately 650 Nipper members from U11 - U14 who competed in the morning on this day with competitors travelling to compete from the Gold Coast to as far north as Mackay, and then the U15-Open competing in the afternoon.

Our local Dicky Beach Surf Club had approx 55 members competing with some great results throughout the day. The pointscore tally is accumulative over the four rounds, and Taron Najilepsy from U11 took out the title for U11 Male Sprint.

The Dicky Beach All Age Relay competitors also savoured victory with their committed training efforts paying off - by the third round they were sharing 1st place with Currumbin then took out the title in the 4th round with an impressive lead on the track.

4th round Winners for the All Age Relay from L to R: Douglas Simpson, Michael Gilliman, Taron Najilepsy, Adam Sciberas, Alex Hearne, Jared Bradicich, Cara Woolnough, Thomas Kidston.

Over 200 images have been uploaded at www.sunriseart.com.au for this event, but the gallery is password protected for DB Nipper Members.

Here are a couple of my boy.... (gosh ~ just a proud mum!) :)

All the kids had an awesome day with many great results, & thankfully the weather stayed fine enough not to grizzle!!

Our next main event is our Branch Carnival in March which is being hosted by Dicky Beach Surf Club.

Remember you can check out more sport action in my public galleries (surfing, kite surfing, footy etc) at SunriseArt.com.au.

Kings Beach Expedition

Hi,

I always thought it was only Melbourne that could experience every season in a day....
and although it wasn't cold, my Kings Beach expedition certainly had a different view depending on which way I faced.
Over 2 days I managed to capture the sunset over Kings, mostly taken from the point (out on the rocks), which was also a little cloudy but provided a nice light show. The midday shots were beautiful blue skies; the next days sunrise was interesting, with black clouds on the horizon & only a small gap in the clouds that allowed the sun to shine through, then as the sun rose the clouds started clearing (a little), there were a couple of skuds of rain (I went & hid in the caves to keep the camera dry) and had the most profound experience... will talk about that in a moment, then cleared to blue skies, in readiness for my next photo shoot.

Check them all out at the SunriseArt gallery.

Back to my profound experience...

Next time you are down at Kings Beach you have got to go & check out these little caves in the rocks.

1, they are so interesting the way nature has carved them out into these little hollows
& 2, the acoustics are amazing.
I took up solace in here to escape a passing shower (I love the rain, but my camera not so much) & for a moment I thought I was at an airport!
the echo from the crashing waves stops you from thinking about anything else, and the vibrations felt were amazing, & calming, a whole body experience.
I don't know if the time of day would make much difference, but as it was sunrise I also had this awesome view...shadowed from the sun by the pandanas trees, but able to feel that gentle sea breeze on my face & through my hair. (Yes, I must have been a dog in a former life, as I love the wind in my hair!!) :)

Anyway, make sure you check this out ... & try out all the caves, as they are all a little different - mother natures gifts.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironman (Round 4) & Nipper X-Perience

Some of our Nippers were fortunate to secure a place & attend the 'Nipper X-Perience' at the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironman series (Round 3 & 4) held at Alexandra Headland on 6th & 7th Feb.

They were able to meet some of our sporting heroes, get autographs on the rashies & caps they were given, introduce the competitors to the crowd & watch the event from the VIP section... right next to all the action!!

View all photos taken at www.sunriseart.com.au under the 'Sport' Gallery. Here are a few samples...
