Image of the Season

This image was taken on Sep 29th - a spring sunrise over the SS Dicky at Dicky Beach QLD. The long shadows of the SS's skeleton are a haunting reminder of what once was. Always an icon to capture many photographers talents.

It's Spring Time!

Another season has passed, & we are well into the middle of Spring!  A time of thunderstorms & rain, sunshine & warmth to make everything breed & grow.  The magpies are nesting (rephrase...) The magpies are feeding their young & protecting their nests... my boys always whine about riding to school & getting swooped!

I have been clearing some of my own clutter... finished my taxes, cleaned up the house.... but wait - there's more dust. Agh!  You may notice I have also been spring cleaning the website... it was starting to get very 'busy' so I am attempting to simplify it a little.

Nippers is well under way, and I have signed up for another year to capture the many talents of our beaut kids in their summer sport.  I have created 'Seasonal' Folders for the Nipper pics now & passwords have changed, so flick me an email with child & age & I will confirm & forward 'Sign On' info to you.

So what do you love about Springtime?  Is it the steady warmth without the sticky heat?  Is it the gorgeous scent of roses coming from the neighbours garden? Is it the kids going crazy when electricity is in the air? (hehe, mine do!)

I also love the warm, hazy mornings to capture that magic moment..... at sunrise of course! :)

This morning (14/10/09) was one of those stormy mornings

      Is it really Winter?

Get out the fans & the spray bottles .... is it really Winter?
This heat wave we are experiencing may be a taste of what's to come with Summer looming... but it also makes for great weather to 'get outside'.

We of course spent Sunday in the Sun, watching the boys play footy in a round robin Mini Mod Carnival, so although we tried to remember to slip, slop, slap we still gained a bit of colour.

It has also meant some gorgeous mornings to wake up early & capture the much anticipated golden rays of the sun.
Here are a couple I have captured over the past week...

"First Light" with the SS Dicky still makes for an iconic capture as it is recognised by locals & others. I lucked this small group of seagulls flying by, and I love it because they add a little life to the image!

"A mans best friends" was inspired by a 'Sunrise' shoot I did for BMW. What better way to spend time and start the day with the most loyal of companians, than on the beach for a walk and a swim.

"SS Dicky first light" was nothing short of spectacular show of colours and reflections. See, clouds can be good with their reflective qualities, and they were all gone by mid morning in readiness for another 'hot' day. These 3 images can be purchased as framed prints or laminated posters from my RedBubble site, or as a digital image or photo print from Sunrise Art.

Now just waiting for the storms to come so I can practice those lightning shots!!! :)

Sunrise at Shelly 15.08.2009 & Visualisation!

Saturday's Sunrise was taken from Shelly Beach.

I personally love this area! It has a beautiful energy which resonates on a real soul level, and the sunlights reflection in the rock pools make for a stunning change from the sandy beaches.

The Pines, they speak their own story... growing tall and strong against all the elements.

For me their silhouette against the morning sunrise is a testament of the beauty of Mother Nature, and that in our own creation if we stand tall and hold strong against all the elements, we too can achieve great wonders.

And lastly.... the chair of contemplation! Here, I can sit and ponder my thoughts. My mind often races with so many thoughts and ideas, and that is on top of managing everyday duties such as work commitments and family, and other challenges that crop up which I am sure you can all relate too... so this becomes the moment where I can sit, take a few deep breaths, feel the sunlight on my face, and have a 'ME' moment. It doesn't last long, 5 mins if I stretch it, but it is enough for me to centre myself, regroup my thinking and be prepared (that's what I tell myself! lol) for whatever this new day brings.

I definately recommend you experiencing one of these moments in time... It is not only relaxing, it is healing too. But if you are unable for whatever reason, maybe you are just not a morning person ;D that is where I hope that by 'capturing the essence' of these moments, you can sit and look at these images and achieve the same results.

Visualisation is a powerful tool, which means you don't have to be anywhere special to 'do' it, you just need to be able to close your eyes and imagine that vision in your mind, then expand it to your other senses... ie: imagine you can see the sun coming up, then imagine you can feel the warmth on your skin. From here your body usually reacts with a deep breath and a sigh (you are starting to relax). Think more about your vision... see the gentle waves rolling in and crashing on the shore... and the sound of those waves crashing on the shore, and maybe some birds in the trees, are you starting to get my drift?

But sometimes we can be so hyped up with life that we even find this difficult (I raise my hand on that one) and by closing your eyes your mind takes off in a hundred directions... this is where I will usually sit and look at a picture. It basically sets the scene for you and gives your mind something to focus on, then as you study the image you can start activating your other senses.

Take the above image for example: Imagine yourself sitting on that chair... it looks hard and cold and may be a little damp from the early morning dew, but the smell in the air is fresh, and as you sit with the large golden sun beaming down on your face (which might have you squinting your eyes because it is so bright) you can start to feel the warmth, and you can see and hear the sound of the gentle waves crashing on the rocks in front of you...... you feel calm, relaxed... in that moment everything else just seems to stand still. Try and stay in that moment for as long as you can! That moment can equal a second, or more... a few minutes, or more... half an hour, or more.

There are no set standards here, or rules that must be followed. Your mind and body will only take in what it needs at that moment in time. If you can only focus and relax for a few seconds, this is OK, but what you will find is the more you practice these techniques, the longer you will be able to 'stay in the moment'!

I hope this weekends blog has been able to give you a new insight, or maybe just confirmed what you already knew.. (maybe you can take it as a little nudge).

      Sunset over Moffats 06.08.2009

Another full moon on the rise.... the last couple of days I have been leaving work & witnessing glorious sunsets, so I vowed that I would leave on time tonight & race up the hill to Moffats to capture this magic moment!!

Well, I made it!! And it was definately worth the effort. It even inspired this little ditty:

Moffat Beach Headland high up on the hill
The golden through the treetops emits a soothing chill
As the sun is setting a beautiful view unfolds
Another day is over, a new one to behold.

These images can be purchased in a variety of formats. GO HERE to view!

      Sunrise 28-July-2009

This mornings Sunrise was beautiful. I haven't seen it for a little while... hibernation tends to keep you in at that hour, but after the gorgeous sunset last night I decided I would make the effort! I set the alarm (a wee bit too early), sunrise isn't till 6:30am just now, & headed to the beach.

I like the nearby beaches to me, off Currimundi lake, Ann Street, Dicky Beach, Moffats. If the weather isn't that spectacular, there is always something else to snap!!!

This morning I stumbled across some eager folk, workin' it... even though it looked like hard work (& probably something I should be investing in..) they were smiling & having a laugh!

Marcus Johnson from Live it Up Personal Fitness, allowed me to take some shots of their workout this morning.. Thankyou Marcus!!

And many thanks to the silhouette models too!
